1. Introduce the sound ‘Paracgyted Apples’ (unaccented syllable)

  • To know that the letter a can sometimes be pronounced as ‘uh’
  • To recognize and spell words containing a pronounced as ‘uh’

2. Introduce the sound ‘Yawning Apple!’ (*teacher should be aware of their accent and make sure they should pronounce the RP accent*)

  • To know that the letter a can sometimes be pronounced as ‘ ah’
  • To recognize and spell words containing a pronounced as ‘ah’

 


 
Advanced – Lesson 2

1. Introduce the sound ‘Giant All’

  • To teach the combination of a, l, land make the ‘ all’ sound (all as in call)
  • To recognize and spell words containing all

2. Introduce the sound ‘Giant All leans on other words’

  • To know that when all becomes a prefix it drops one I
  • To recognize and spell words containing al

 


 
Advanced – Lesson 3

1. Introduce the sound al (as in medical)

  • To recognize and spell words containing al
  • To recognize el saying ‘ul’

2. Introduce the sound are (as in scare)

  • To know the letters ar and Magic e combine to make the ‘-air’ sound
  • To recognize and spell words containing -are

 


 
Advanced – Lesson 4

1. Revision on all the ‘a’ sounds:

  • a (America); a (father)
  • all! al (call/almost)
  • al (medical); are (scare)

2. Introduce the sound ce (soft c after e)

  • To know that the letter c changes from its hard sound to its soft sound beside e (as in nice)
  • To recognize and spell words containing ce

 


 
Advanced – Lesson 5

1. Introduce the sound ci (soft c in ci)

  • To know that the letter c changes from its hard sound to its soft sound beside I (as in city)
  • To recognize and spell words containing ci

2. Introduce the sound cy (soft c in cy)

  • To know that the letter c changes from its hard sound to its soft sound beside y (as in fancy)
  • To recognize and spell words containing cy

 


 
Advanced – Lesson 6

1. Introduce the sound eh (hard c sound)

  • To recall their memory on lower level course that they have learnt ‘eh’ sound as in ‘church’
  • To know that the letters c and h can combine to make the hard ‘eh’ sound also
  • To know that once in a while the eh sound may sound like ‘sh’
  • To recognize and spell words containing hard eh

2. Revise all ‘c’ sounds learnt so far: ee, ei, ey, eh


 
Advanced- Lesson 7

1. Introduce the silent e- burnt out magic e (magic e exceptions)

  • To know that a final silent e may sometimes not function as a magic e
  • To recognize and spell irregular words with final Silent e

2. Introduce e (as in they)

  • To know that in a few words the letters ey sound like along a
  • To recognize and spell these irregular words

 


 
Advanced – Lesson 8

  • To know that the letters e and a can combine to make the ‘ea’ sound (ea as in head)
  • To recognize and spell words containing ea

2. Introduce the ear

  • To know that letters e, a, and r can combine to make the ‘air’ sound (ear as in bear)
  • To recognize and spell words containing ears in bear)

 


 
Advanced- Lesson 9

1.  Introduce the ei (receive/ height)

  • To know that the letters e and i can combine to represent long e ( ei as in receive) or long i (as in height)
  • To recognize and spell words containing ei

2. Introduce the ei (eight)

  • To know that a few words, the letters ei sound like long a
  • To recognize and spell these words

 


 
Advanced- Lesson 10 Mid-term Quiz (Evaluation)
